And former Bayern technical director, Marco Neppe, has now shared his thoughts on Gravenberch’s success at Liverpool having sold the midfielder to the Anfield side in 2023.
Marco Neppe ‘super happy’ to see Ryan Gravenberch flourish at Liverpool
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Neppe shared how ‘happy’ he was to see Gravenberch succeed at Liverpool, with the former Bayern director not surprised to see the Dutch international do as well as he has for the Reds.
Indeed, few fans would have expected Gravenberch to be as influential as he has been this season at Liverpool, yet Neppe always has faith in the former Ajax man that he would one day flourish at the highest level in football.
Neppe said about Gravenberch’s success: “I am super happy for Ryan. He is a special midfielder. When we signed him from Ajax, we were 100% convinced. And, honestly, we never doubted his qualities. We knew he would bring it someday.
“We saw exactly what he is now showing at Liverpool. But sometimes it is about needing some patience too. Even in his first season at Liverpool, it was not easy. It is a momentum thing. There are so many stories in football where big careers start because of an injury to another player and they take their chance.”

With Gravenberch now valued at £170m, the youngster’s transformation at Liverpool this season under Slot has been nothing short of astonishing, with the 22-year-old midfielder arguably the first name on the team sheet for the Reds.
Gravenberch has gone from a squad player who would be a surprise name in the starting XI for a big name to the most important outfield figure for Liverpool in a season where they comfortably won the Premier League title.
With Gravenberch attracting interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool know they have a special talent on their hands, and the midfielder will only go from strength to strength after this breakout season with the Reds in the top-flight.
