Michael Owen says Arne Slot could have a big advantage in the transfer market as players prepare to ‘walk to Liverpool’

All eyes are on the transfer market at Liverpool as they play out their remaining games of the season.

The Reds lost against Chelsea on Sunday to tick down to the last three games of the campaign.

Although the defeat at Stamford Bridge was disappointing, Liverpool ultimately have nothing left to play for.

They have done their job and won the Premier League already. Anything else is just window dressing at this point.

Instead, supporters are getting excited over who Arne Slot may sign to join the Liverpool squad this summer. A big transfer window beckons at Anfield.

With the Reds preparing to splash the cash, former striker Michael Owen has claimed that Liverpool hold one big advantage in persuading new signings to join.

Michael Owen says everyone wants to join Liverpool

The celebrations that followed Liverpool’s title win last weekend should act as proof to any prospective signing of what they can expect if they join the club. Slot should not have much convincing to do this summer.

That’s certainly the view of Owen, who has claimed that ‘everybody’ will be wanting to play for Liverpool just now.

“Use your badge,” the pundit told premierleague.com. “Everybody wants to play in that red shirt at the moment.

“I don’t care that they’re not going to win the Champions League this year, they’re probably the best team in Europe, probably the world at the moment.”

“This team is a winning machine at the moment and everybody wants to join. There are one or two players that you need to spend money on.

“But there are a lot of players out there that would walk to Liverpool to be in that squad,” Owen adds. “Utilise that. Have those types of players as your back-ups or bring them through the academy.”

Owen predicts Liverpool to spend on two positions

While Owen is likely right that Liverpool are one of the most attractive clubs to join at the moment, he also thinks the Reds will not go overboard in terms of expenditure this summer.

“I do think they’ll invest money. But the key to it is where you invest. Don’t be wasting £100m on a back-up player. That’s madness,” he says.

“For the immediate here and now I only think they will spend on two positions. They might recruit one or two others, but only as back-up because they don’t need to waste money.

“I think they’ll prioritise a left-back and an attacker and they will spend money on those two positions. I think the other positions they will go for cheap options as cover.”

Liverpool have often been good at doing exactly that without an extra status as champions to entice signings. Now that they have the in their back pocket, it’s definitely wise to use it.
