Liverpool suffered a third defeat of the Premier League season after going down 3-1 at Chelsea on Sunday.

The Reds had hoped to underline their status as champions with a win at Stamford Bridge.

However, with Chelsea battling for a place in next season’s Champions League, it was never going to be a straightforward task for Liverpool.

The Reds did not do badly in the end, with Wataru Endo putting in a good performance and others turning up to lesser degrees. But Liverpool still looked undercooked without some of their regular starters beginning the game.

The Reds have been linked with having a big summer transfer window and on Sunday it was clear that they could do with upgrading the squad.

One player supposedly on the radar is left-back Milos Kerkez. And after bearing witness to Liverpool’s defeat on Sunday, former Reds captain Jamie Redknapp offered his verdict on Kerkez moving to Anfield.

Jamie Redknapp delivers Milos Kerkez verdict

Just as he now has for three of Liverpool’s last four matches, Kostas Tsimikas started the game at left-back against Chelsea.

Tsimikas ended up playing for the full 90 minutes and was somewhat culpable for Chelsea’s second goal of the day.

The move highlighted why left-back has become a small issue for Arne Slot. And according to Redknapp, Kerkez could be a player looked at to solve the problem.

“I certainly wouldn’t write Andy Robertson off just yet, he’s still a top player,” the pundit said on Sky Sports after the match

“He’s a great professional, you make sure you keep him even if you do bring in Kerkez.

“Kerkez has been amazing for Bournemouth. He’s like a younger version and that’s going to be the key. I’m sure they are looking at who they can bring in.”

As well as commenting on Liverpool’s ongoing pursuit of Kerkez, Redknapp also gave his view on who the Reds could sign up front this summer.

“Ekitike has had a mention for Liverpool,” said the 51-year-old.

“It has not worked out for Darwin Nunez, that might be a player surplus to requirements and they bring in another one in his place.”

If Kerkez and Ekitike are two players brought in this summer, most Liverpool fans would be happy enough. They would at the very least raise the floor of the Liverpool squad considerably.

It would probably be wrong to read too much into the Chelsea performance given the circumstances, but on the other hand, it is clear that Liverpool need some fresh blood.
