What Arne Slot has personally made clear to Jurgen Klopp during Liverpool’s 24/25 campaign

The 2024/25 campaign has been a major success for Liverpool.

The Reds are cruising towards a 20th Premier League title as the Merseyside club currently lead Arsenal by 11 points with just seven games remaining.

This was not expected to happen during Arne Slot’s first campaign at Anfield as the Dutch coach had the unenviable task of having to succeed Jurgen Klopp.

Although the cup competitions have slipped away from Liverpool, the Premier League is the trophy every fan wanted before the season began, and that is what the campaign should be judged on, in what was supposed to be a transition year.

Having delivered Liverpool’s 19th title back in 2020, Klopp knows what it takes to win the Premier League and Slot has benefited from that throughout the 24/25 campaign.

Arne Slot’s open invite to Jurgen Klopp

It was reported by The Athletic on Tuesday that Klopp is set to return to Liverpool next month as the German coach is set to be the guest speaker at the LFC Foundation gala dinner at Liverpool Cathedral on Friday, May 23.

It is uncertain if the legendary Reds figure will attend the final game of the season against Crystal Palace on May 25, although the 57-year-old has been invited.

In February, Slot shared that Klopp texts him after some matches to compliment how his Liverpool team has played, but he has never given him advice on how to win the Premier League.

It has now been reported that Slot and Klopp have regularly exchanged messages over the course of this season with the Dutchman making it clear that there’s an open invitation for his predecessor to either attend games at Anfield or visit the club’s Kirkby training base whenever he wants.

Klopp is expected to be at Anfield when Liverpool lift the Premier League following their final game with Crystal Palace and it would be an understatement to say that everyone will be delighted to see their old boss.

How Arne Slot’s first season compares to Jurgen Klopp’s last at Liverpool

Andy Robertson recently compared Slot and Klopp’s Liverpool teams with the Scottish defender failing to separate the two.

The Dutch coach has inherited the Klopp team that went close to winning the Premier League last season but has made a few tweaks, such as using Ryan Gravenberch in the number six, as well as making the Reds a more controlled team.

When it comes to performance levels, there is not much to separate the two teams, with Liverpool’s current domination of the Premier League also a result of the competition regressing.

Had Klopp stayed, it would have been likely that the German coach would have won his second Premier League title with Liverpool, but the 57-year-old should be given credit for the team he left Slot.

It is admirable that the two have been in constant communication throughout the season and there is no doubt that the German’s messages have helped give Slot a boost of confidence at times.
