Liverpool players told to start ‘looking over their shoulders’ after lacklustre Fulham defeat

The Reds missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League, after being defeated 3-2 by Fulham.

Despite Alexis Mac Allister scoring a screamer early on, Liverpool were far from their usual best and were undone by Marco Silva’s side.

A number of Reds players flattered to deceive at Craven Cottage, with Andy Robertson at fault for Fulham’s second and Ibrahima Konate also earning criticism for his shaky first-half performance.

Still, eleven points clear, the defeat in West London won’t raise any big worries at the moment – but Joe Hart thinks Liverpool’s players can’t rest on their laurels just yet.

Joe Hart claims Liverpool players can’t be complacent

Liverpool have looked jaded over the past month or so, often starting games in very lacklustre fashion.

With the title almost wrapped up, it may then seem that the Reds are now just cruising through games – something Hart believes may cost some players this summer.

Speaking to the Premier League, the former England shot-stopper said:

“[Liverpool] have put themselves in an incredible position but they’re not in a position to cruise. Everyone in that team needs to be looking over their shoulders over who they bring in over the Summer. They need to finish the season strong.”

Fulham defeat highlighted Liverpool’s defensive problem

Liverpool’s comfortable position at the top of the league will give Arne Slot the freedom to plan ahead of next season.

With this in mind, the Fulham game may raise a few concerns for the Reds boss, with Liverpool’s defence a notable worry from the match.

Robertson has been criticised a number of occasions this campaign and those concerns would again surface at Craven Cottage, with the Scotsman’s wayward pass setting up Alex Iwobi to score Fulham’s second.

Milos Kerkez continues to be linked with Liverpool and games like today will only further cement Slot’s ambition to sign a new left-back this summer.
