Arne Slot’s side returned from the international break with a much-needed win against Merseyside rivals Everton.
Having dropped points against the Toffees at Goodison Park, Liverpool made sure not to make the same mistake twice coming away with a well-fought 1-0 victory.
Three points was all that mattered for the Reds, but there was another huge positive for Slot on the night – namely the performance of Curtis Jones.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold out injured, Slot decided to play Jones at right-back – a decision that would ultimately pay off, with the 24-year-old providing a very solid display in defence.
During the aftermath of the win, Reds fans were quick to sing the praises of Jones, even claiming he should play there more often.

Liverpool fans laud Curtis Jones display vs Everton
Conor Bradley’s injury issues have limited Slot’s options at right-back in recent weeks, Liverpool fans though believe Jones could be the man to step in.
Taking to social media, one fan said via X (formerly Twitter):
“Curtis Jones I love you so much. The composure. The awareness. All these ball between the lines. You’re Einstein”
A third fan said: “Curtis Jones tonight you were immense to play at right back a position you’re unfamiliar with in a Merseyside derby and to play that good, my word what a player”
Alexander-Arnold was pitchside for the derby and watched on as his stand-in replacement provided a solid performance in his place.
With this in mind, some fans even claimed Jones should now be above Alexander-Arnold in the right-back pecking order.
“Curtis Jones is above Trent in the order at RB for me after this performance,” added another supporter.
Jones shows his worth to Arne Slot
Slot decided to drop Jarell Quansah for the Everton clash claiming Jones could offer Liverpool something different on the night.
This would prove to be the case as the 24-year-old’s ball-playing ability gave the Reds another dimension in possession, shown by his ten passes into the final third.
It wasn’t just on the ball in which Jones thrived though, as the Merseyside native was also solid defensively, winning three duels on the night.
| Curtis Jones stats vs Everton | |
| Minutes played | 90 |
| Match rating | 7.7 |
| Accurate passes | 68/73 (93%) |
| Touches | 85 |
| Passes into final third | 10 |

Performances like that will no doubt catch the attention of Slot and potentially lead to more cameos at right-back in the future.
