Arne Slot’s men were magnificent under the Anfield lights with Luis Diaz receiving praise from Liverpool fans, while Dominik Szoboszlai was labelled outstanding by Ally McCoist.

Everyone in the starting 11 played their role at some stage as Liverpool look to be beaming with confidence after coming through a difficult run of fixtures.

Those on the fringes will want to get in on the act and Harvey Elliott will be one of them, as Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood noticed something about the Reds midfielder on the bench.

Harvey Elliott ‘angry and annoyed’ on Liverpool bench

Slot used all five of his substitutes against Newcastle on Wednesday night but Elliott was not among them, despite getting a run out against Man City at the weekend.

Jamie Carragher believes Slot doesn’t trust Elliott and that becomes more apparent with each match that passes.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Gilette Soccer Special, Tim Sherwood stated that the Reds midfielder was angry and annoyed on the Liverpool bench and has encouraged the 21-year-old to leave Anfield.

“The trouble is for players like Harvey Elliott, I watched him and I was really impressed with what I saw,” Sherwood stated.

“The other boys are coming onto the pitch. He’s made five subs there tonight, and still no Harvey Elliott and you know, he’s not happy.

“He sat there and his face was so angry and annoyed. I quite admire that. You know, that boy is not going to sit there and just not play.”

“He will want to leave that football club, I know it’s a brilliant club if he can fight his way into the team, but if he’s not going to play on a regular basis.

“They’ve got players like that and you need players like that, who want to play and want to affect it. At the moment, a top-quality player like him is sitting there and he’s getting no game time.

“If you don’t play and listen, he would be happy picking up a trophy and a medal but in the end, he will want to contribute a lot more than what he’s done.”

Harvey Elliott’s season hints at Liverpool exit

Slot has described Elliott as a ‘talented’ player this season, however, the Dutch coach does not seem to trust the midfielder as much as Jurgen Klopp did.

The 21-year-old has received just 503 minutes of action throughout the 2024/25 campaign, which is not enough for the youngster to develop.

The Englishman is a player Liverpool will not want to let go, but it may be best for everyone involved as Brighton and Borussia Dortmund are interested in Elliott, with both clubs being the perfect destination for the Reds talent.

The way Elliott has been used this season by Slot suggests that the youngster could be heading for the exit door this summer and being a Liverpool fan, the midfielder will want to end his time at Anfield on a high.
