Liverpool are entering a crucial phase of their first season under Arne Slot.

The Reds suffered a late setback against Everton last week as an added-time equaliser for the Blues secured a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

Many fans feared there would be a hangover from that result in their next outing and those were realised as Liverpool struggled against Wolves in the second half on Sunday, with Slot’s men thankful for coming away with all three points.

With the gap at the top of the league being seven points from Arsenal, this week could be crucial in the title race as Liverpool travel away to Aston Villa and Man City.

Slot has experience winning a league title at Feyenoord with a 13-game winning streak throughout their last 14 matches showing that the Dutch coach can handle the pressure.

Arne Slot’s title-winning season with Feyenoord

Slot won the Dutch league with Feyenoord during his second season at the club and did so in impressive fashion.

After 34 matches, the Rotterdam-based club finished seven points ahead of PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie standings having lost just two games throughout the campaign.

Overall, it was an impressive season for Slot’s team, but the campaign’s first half saw one loss and several draws.

The key to winning the Eredivisie for Feyenoord was the run-in and what happened should excite Liverpool fans as they prepare for their own starting this week.

During the last 14 games of the 2022/23 season, Slot’s team won 13 matches in a row before losing on the final day with the league already wrapped up.

The run started on 12 February with a 2-1 win away at Heerenveen before ending on 21 May as Feyenoord defeated FC Emmen 3-1 away from home.

This run was crucial to the Rotterdam club winning the league that season and it included big wins over teams such as Ajax and AZ Alkmaar; while it also saw Slot’s men keep only four clean sheets, which is something Liverpool fans are a bit concerned about with their team at present.

The 2022/23 season at Feyenoord shows that Slot can deal with the pressure of a title race and the Dutch coach knows how to get it done again, which was evident on Tuesday when speaking to the press.

Liverpool are in good hands with Arne Slot

Liverpool will be without Cody Gakpo and Joe Gomez for their trip to Aston Villa with the contest in Birmingham signifying 13 games until the Premier League season concludes.

Fans of the Reds should not expect Slot’s team to win all 13 as he did at Feyenoord and more importantly, the Dutch coach knows that.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, the Liverpool boss shared what he has taken from winning the Eredivisie and his words highlight how calm he is about his team’s current situation.

“If there’s any experience I’ve learned from winning a league title, it is in general in a season if there are 38 games to be played, don’t expect you have 38 times fantastic football,” the Dutch coach said via the Liverpool Echo.

“If you are a very good team and a very special team you play 20-25 very good games then you play a few mediocre ones and you play a few very bad ones. But it is more about the results in the mediocre or bad ones than the 20-25 because they are the ones you will probably win.

“What I still see (from the players) and what I ask from them, is you can play 25 games well, some mediocre and some bad but the work rate in every single game should be the same. This is what I saw against Wolves, what I saw maybe even more at Everton because it wasn’t our game, it was their game.”
