Liverpool have enjoyed a hugely successful debut season under Arne Slot.

Seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, with a Carabao Cup final also on the horizon – the Reds have dominated domestically this campaign.

Liverpool’s success has also been felt on the European stage as well though, with Slot’s men topping the Champions League first phase.

Having beaten the likes of Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, many are now tipping the Reds to go all the way.

Lamine Yamal claims Liverpool are Champions League favourites

Former Man United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has praised Liverpool for their European performances and has predicted them to go on and lift the trophy in Munich.

Opta have also tipped Liverpool as champions and it seems like they aren’t the only ones fancying Slot’s side as favourites.

That is because Spanish wonderkid Lamine Yamal has claimed the Reds are favourites to win the Champions League ahead of his Barcelona side.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the EURO 2024 winner said:

“There is only one team in the Champions League that is more favoured than us, and that is Liverpool, because they finished first.”

Liverpool will soon find out Champions League round of 16 opponents

The Reds knew there were multiple outcomes from the Champions League play-off rounds, with four potential opponents for them to face.

That four though has now been reduced to three following Benfica’s 4-3 aggregate win over Monaco on Tuesday evening, meaning the Reds could have a potential Portugal trip on the cards.

Massive collapses aside, Liverpool’s other possible opponents will likely be Paris Saint-Germain following their 3-0 first-leg hammering of Brest.

PSG’s dismantling of Manchester City, suggests they may be the tougher tie for Reds. Benfica however will be no easy test, shown by their 3-3 draw at Anfield in 2022.
