Liverpool had a night to remember on Thursday as they put Tottenham Hotspur to the sword.
The Reds knew they’d need to score at least twice to make it past Tottenham and into the Carabao Cup final and that proved to be no trouble at all.
Liverpool matched a 131-year-old record by smashing four goals past Spurs and booking a Wembley date with Newcastle.
The best moment of the night arguably came when Virgil van Dijk headed home Liverpool’s fourth and final goal in front of the Kop.
Van Dijk was supreme on the night, just as he has been all season.
And as they continue to celebrate the form of their imperious captain, Liverpool fans will be hoping that some good news has just been delivered on his future.

Virgil van Dijk agent sits with Richard Hughes
With every passing Van Dijk masterclass, the question of his future grows ever louder.
Surely Liverpool are not about to led this titan of a defender, the captain of the club, leave on a free transfer?
Nevertheless, with less than five months left on his contract at Anfield, that is currently the direction of travel.
However, according to a nugget of information from The Times, things may be looking up.

They claim that Van Dijk’s ‘representatives’ were spotted sitting next to Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes during Thursday night’s game.
Seen together in the front row of the director’s box, it’s suggested that Liverpool fans will ‘hope there was something significant’ in the sighting.
What could this mean?
The Times do also note that ‘dialogue is continuing’ between all parties regarding an extension to Van Dijk’s contract.
With Hughes clearly in contact with the Dutchman’s team, them being spotted together could easily mean nothing at all.
However, it is also worth saying that this does not appear to have been a regular occurence.
The fact that Van Dijk’s people were there alongside Hughes was deemed noteworthy enough of mention, and that suggests that it is a slightly unprecedented step.
In our opinion, this is likely to mean that an agreement between Liverpool and Van Dijk has either been reached or is very close to being. But until anything more concrete emerges, it’s best to exercise caution.
