Liverpool are set for a big summer transfer window with wholesale changes expected from across the board this off-season.

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are on course to become free-agents whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to leave for Real Madrid, with Liverpool looking at five positions to improve on at the end of the season.

With Frenkie de Jong emerging as a target for Liverpool, there’s a real chance that the Reds could spend big in the summer, especially if Arne Slot can lead the Anfield side to a historic quadruple with the Premier League and UEFA Champions League realistic titles this season.

Out of all the contract rebels, though, Alexander-Arnold could prove to be the hardest to replace, and Liverpool are now seemingly looking at a player from Chelsea to fill the void left by the England international this summer.

Malo Gusto eyed as potential summer signing for Liverpool

According to TeamTalk, Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto is being lined up as a potential replacement for Alexander-Arnold, with the France international featuring regularly for the Blues this season under new manager Enzo Maresca.

The former Leicester City coach has lauded Gusto himself as ‘fantastic’, with the defender establishing himself as a worthy option to cover for Reece James in Chelsea’s right-back position, has continued to struggle massively with injury issues in the last two seasons.

As per the report, though, Chelsea have no intention of selling Gusto in the summer with the former Olympique Lyonnais star viewed as a key player in the first-team given his age and potential to improve in the future.

Indeed, Liverpool moving for a player belonging to a Premier League rival is also likely to result in some serious backlash from Chelsea, and for the Reds, their pursuit for Gusto could be over before it’s even begun.

What other right-backs have Liverpool been linked with?

Replacing Alexander-Arnold could be one of the hardest things Liverpool end up doing in any transfer market, with Denis Irwin comparing the defender to David Beckham due to his range of passing and ability to cross.

Yet the options the Reds have been linked with are promising, with Liverpool rumoured to be interested in Jeremie Frimpong as the Bayer Leverkusen defender looks to finally leave the Bundesliga for a return to the Premier League.

With Joshua Kimmich another player Liverpool have been linked with, there are some exciting names out there who could be good enough to succeed Alexander-Arnold at Anfield, especially if a deal for Gusto collapses early in the window.
