Liverpool watched another transfer deadline pass without feeling the need to get involved on Monday.
Currently sitting in first place in the Premier League and well on course to challenge for every trophy possible, it’s understandable why the Reds did not enter the market.
But as they watched what unfolded elsewhere across Europe, there were still potential ramifications for Liverpool.
Man City signing Nico Gonzalez could be good news for Liverpool, for example, with the Reds now able to peruse the remaining defensive midfield market without pressure from City.
But there was potentially some less good news on Monday as well, as AC Milan signed Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.
Reports had previously claimed that Milan were extremely keen on Darwin Nunez as the man to fill their gap at centre-forward. But with the Italians going in a different direction, Liverpool may now need to reassess their own plan with Nunez.
Liverpool might have scored Darwin Nunez own goal
It would be a surprise to precisely no one if Nunez were still to leave Liverpool this summer.
The 25-year-old has not been all bad since arriving for a whopping fee back in 2022, but he certainly has not lived up to expectations. Liverpool can definitely upgrade.
However, in order to improve the Liverpool squad, Nunez will surely have to be moved on first. With Milan out of the picture, that may now be easier said than done.
As per The Athletic on the morning after the deadline night before, Liverpool did have enquiries from Saudi Arabia about Nunez’s availability last month, but emphatically rebuffed them.

The Saudis are likely to retain an interest in Liverpool’s No.9 and could definitely afford his asking-price, but does Nunez want to move to the Middle East?
He’s perhaps more likely to want to continue in Europe and Milan had felt like an almost perfect fit. Without the San Siro side to count on, Liverpool may find it difficult to flog an expensive, out-of-form, temperamental striker.
Could Liverpool keep Darwin Nunez?
There is clearly no need to panic on this matter just yet. There is still a good deal of time before the summer window opens. Anything could happen until then.
One thing that does seem unlikely to come about, though, is that Liverpool will keep Nunez.
With two years to go on his contract at the end of the season, it feels virtually certain that the time has come to let Darwin go.
After Milan’s signing of Gimenez, Liverpool may need to change their plan on exactly how that comes about.
But, unless something dramatic happens, the writing is still on the wall for Darwin.
