Liverpool fans know better than to get excited for transfer deadline day.
The Reds very rarely get involved in the bi-annual extravaganza which can see some sensational, unexpected and often bizarre moves take place.
This year, Liverpool’s January window look set to be no different. Arne Slot is happy with the Liverpool squad, and, as a result, no additions are expected before the 11pm deadline on Monday.
Nevertheless, Liverpool are looking ahead to a busy summer. With change afoot at Anfield, the Reds cannot afford to stand still once again.
Their Premier League rivals are certainly strengthening, with Man City gearing up to sign Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez fresh from Sunday’s harrowing loss at Arsenal.
But while Liverpool fans may be nervous at seeing a rival club snap up a promising, young defensive midfield player, Nico’s imminent arrival in Manchester could actually be good news for the Reds.

Path clearing for Liverpool and Angelo Stiller
Having lost Rodri to a lengthy injury, City need a defensive midfielder even more than Liverpool do.
As a result, The Athletic profiled several players who could be the answer for Pep Guardiola earlier in January.
One of those suggested as ‘one to keep an eye on’ was Stuttgart schemer Angelo Stiller. Noted for his ‘expansive passing range from deep,’ Stiller is deemed as a possible option for City to sign.
However, as per Fabrizio Romano on deadline day, the Premier League champions are set to sign Nico from Porto for around £50m.

Given that City will have Rodri back to call upon for next year – and that Nico is just 23 – it seems as though Guardiola’s plan is for the two Spaniards to play together. This could rule out a deal for Stiller.
Interestingly, Liverpool have been linked with Stiller, too. The Germany international recently signed a new deal with a release clause included. A summer transfer looks likely, and with City setting their sights elsewhere, the path could be clearer for the Reds.
Why Liverpool should sign Angelo Stiller
Young, improving and potentially not overly expensive, Stiller could be a perfect signing for Liverpool.
Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness called Stiller ‘incredible‘ while managing him at previous club Hoffenheim, and the 23-year-old has only gotten better since then.
If Liverpool wait and do not pounce at the end of the current season, then regardless of City dropping out of the race, someone else will.
Already a full German international and having now showed his quality in the Champions League, big clubs from across Europe will be circling Stiller this summer.
Having plumped for the Porto man instead, City will likely be out of the race, though. And that can only be good news for Liverpool on this deadline day.
