The 2024/25 campaign has not gone to plan for Harvey Elliott at Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has missed the majority of the season as a result of a broken foot suffered at the start of the campaign and it put the midfielder on the backfoot when it came to impressing new Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

As a result, Elliott has featured just 12 times this season, producing two goals and one assist within 292 minutes of action.

Jamie Carragher thinks Elliott can be ‘really important’ for Liverpool throughout the remainder of the season and it may be time for the midfielder to start a match in the Premier League, especially with Curtis Jones’s injury keeping him out of action for the near future.

Slot has addressed that possibility on Friday as Liverpool continue to prepare for their clash with Ipswich Town this weekend.

Arne Slot encourages Liverpool star Harvey Elliott ahead of Ipswich clash

Elliott has starred for Liverpool after coming off the bench in the Reds’ last two matches with the 21-year-old involved in both goals at Brentford before scoring the winner on Tuesday night against Lille.

Mohamed Salah was full of praise for Elliott after his display against the French outfit with the Egyptian stating that he was ‘happy’ for the English talent.

Fans have been calling for Elliott to receive more minutes and speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Ipswich, Slot told the media what the midfielder has to do to get into his team.

“Keep bringing in performances like he did and keep working as hard on the training ground as he is,” the Dutch coach stated via Ian Doyle. “I’ve always said he’s in competition with five very good midfielders and a few youngsters coming through as well but aren’t close to playing time yet.”

Slot has been set on a midfield three of Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister this season, therefore, Elliott has serious work to do to move one of these stars out of the way.

Ipswich Town provides Harvey Elliott with a platform to shine

With Liverpool having a nice buffer at the top of the Premier League, the Ipswich clash on Saturday could be the time to allow some fringe players to show their worth to Slot, particularly two.

Kieran McKenna’s side were hammered 6-0 by Man City last time out in the English top flight and their confidence will certainly have taken a hit ahead of a tough trip to Anfield.

This provides Elliott with the perfect platform to shine as the youngster’s confidence will be sky-high due to his displays over the last week. The midfielder could take Jones’ place in the starting 11 that played Lille, although Mac Allister is expected to return.

Darwin Nunez should also keep his starting spot in the Liverpool team against Ipswich as it would do the Uruguayan the world of good to score in back-to-back Premier League games as the Reds continue their hunt for the title.
