Liverpool extended their winning streak in the UEFA Champions League this season to seven with a 2-1 win against LOSC Lille.

The Reds confirmed their place in the next round of the competition as Mohamed Salah and Harvey Elliott scored on the night to secure an important win for Liverpool at Anfield, with the Reds needing just one point in their final Champions League game to claim top spot in the standings.

Although Liverpool lost Curtis Jones through injury, it was a good night at the office for the Reds, who heading into Saturday’s Premier League tie against Ipswich Town will be full of confidence in getting a big result.

As well as getting the three points, Jamie Carragher noticed one thing from last night’s performance in Arne Slot’s game management skills that could go a long way in Liverpool securing more big wins in the coming weeks.

Slot now starting to ‘trust’ Harvey Elliott, says Jamie Carragher

Speaking on CBS Sports’ UCL Today, the Liverpool legend noted how Slot now seems to be putting his ‘trust’ behind the likes of Elliott after the Dutch manager once again turned to his substitutes bench to help find an answer against Lille.

Elliott was the match-winner for Liverpool as the youngster impressed having come on for the Reds after the restart, and Carragher believes Slot has turned a corner in trusting his fringe players, which could prove beneficial in the second-half of the season.

Carragher said when analysing Liverpool’s win: “What was really important at the weekend was Liverpool winning the game from the substitutes bench, and they did it again. I think Arne Slot is starting to trust his squad a bit more.

“We saw Harvey Elliott come on and get the goal, so maybe he’s starting to trust the squad more than he did in the first half of the season, and that’s going to be really important in the second-half of the season.”

Salah will agree with Carragher after Elliott praise

Salah might have been the one who claimed the official Man of the Match award, but it was Elliott who got the job done for the Reds as the Liverpool youngster again showed his quality from the bench after being called upon by Slot.

And the Egyptian seemingly agrees with Carragher’s comments on Slot trusting the likes of Elliott, with Salah lauding the England youth international after the full-time whistle and even posing with the midfielder with his Man of the Match trophy in the Liverpool tunnel.

Indeed, Slot trusting his substitutes and giving the likes of Elliott more minutes is only a good thing for Liverpool, and the Reds could start getting some real mileage out of their fringe players heading into the most important part of the season.
