Liverpool secured one of their biggest wins of the season on Saturday against Brentford after a dramatic 2-0 result.
Darwin Nunez’s record-breaking brace in stoppage time was enough to get Arne Slot’s side across the line in west London having dominated the entire match, with Liverpool having close to 40 shots against Brentford.
One of the starters on the night was Dominik Szoboszlai, with the Hungarian international hitting the crossbar in the first-half before being brought off for Harvey Elliott with ten minutes to go, with Slot lauding the England youth international for his impact from the bench.
Yet despite Szoboszlai’s performance, Troy Deeney saw something from the Liverpool no. 8 that completely blew away the pundit.

Szoboszlai strike ‘one of the best’ Deeney has ever seen
Writing for BBC Sport, the pundit noted how one of Szoboszlai’s strikes against Brentford was ‘one of the best’ he has ever seen, with Deeney likely referring to the Liverpool midfielder’s attempt off the woodwork 30 minutes in.
Deeney wrote: “He was excellent against Brentford and was a growing influence throughout the game. He looks comfortable in Arne Slot’s side now. He hit the bar with one of the best strikes I have ever seen, and on another day he could have had five.”

With Liverpool target Antoine Semenyo naming Szoboszlai as one of his hardest Premier League opponents, the Hungarian international seemingly has a knack for winning praise from top professionals in the game.
And Deeney’s comments once again show just how good Szoboszlai’s shooting can be from distance, even with Liverpool fans yet to see much from the former Bundesliga star in this regard since joining 18 months ago.

Slot needs to release Szoboszlai’s shackles if he’s to thrive
Szoboszlai has been an interesting addition to Liverpool’s squad since joining in 2023, with the former Leipzig man yet to really capture the imagination of supporters despite a number of impressive if unremarkable performances.
And for Slot, the Dutch manager could win a lot of plaudits if Szoboszlai was to be let go from his shackles in the midfield and to become a part of the attack, with the advanced midfielder capable of doing incredible things in the right system.
Indeed, Elliott himself has lauded Szoboszlai as ‘world-class’ with FC Barcelona star Dani Olmo also a huge fan of the Liverpool no. 8, and Slot needs to give the Hungarian the platform needed to truly thrive in this system.
