As each day passes, Liverpool are getting closer and closer to losing three of their most important players for absolutely nothing.
With February well on the way, the Reds’ are taking their sweet time over their much talked about contract negotiations.
For a little while, the player who has felt the most likely to extend his stay at Anfield has been captain Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk has been ‘brilliant’ this season according to Troy Deeney – and many more besides – and Liverpool fans are desperate to see the Dutchman stay.
However, as time passes with no resolution reached, supporters have had to ponder a life without Van Dijk.
Having left Liverpool last summer, Jurgen Klopp now knows that reality very well indeed. But having started his new job with Red Bull, Klopp is reportedly eyeing a future reunion with his former centre-back.

Jurgen Klopp keen on Virgil van Dijk Red Bull reunion
It’s hard to imagine that Van Dijk will not be at Liverpool next season and beyond. The No.4 has become part of the furniture at Anfield.
Virgil is arguably still Arne Slot’s most important player and it’s inconceivable that he could be playing somewhere else in just a few short months.
Given the way he’s playing, you wouldn’t bet against the 33-year-old playing at the top level for years to come. As a result, if Liverpool do not tie him down, then someone else will snap him up.
And while that someone else is unlikely to be any of the Red Bull clubs now under Klopp’s purview, journalist Julien Laurens claims that the legendary manager has been saying he’d love to sign Van Dijk for New York Red Bulls – but only when he’s in his 40’s.
“He looks refreshed to be fair, he looked happy to be there,” Laurens told BBC Football Daily of Klopp’s unveiling as Red Bull’s Global Head of Football earlier this week.
“He’ll go to Brazil for a bit for Bragantino, you can go to New York – where he wants to bring Virgil van Dijk when he’s 41, he said. He will travel the world, I’m not sure what he will do but he looks happy.”
Will Van Dijk stay at Liverpool?
If Van Dijk wants to do a Steven Gerrard and head to the MLS when he’s winding down his career, that’s absolutely fine by us.
Now 33, should the skipper play on for eight more years at Liverpool before moving onto the USA, then he can go anywhere he pleases. His work will be done.
For now, though, the thought of Van Dijk leaving to go anywhere is a galling one.
There has always been confidence that Van Dijk will not leave Liverpool at the end of his current deal, but that date is now getting worryingly close.
No panic regarding Virgil is coming out of Anfield for now, but something has to change – and fast. We still expect the big defender to stay, but until his contract is signed, worry will remain.
