Liverpool are set to enter 2025 sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table.
The Reds have had a remarkable second half of 2024, blasting their way to being title favourites under Arne Slot.
But as well as things have been going on the pitch, next year could also be remembered as the one when Liverpool let three of their best players leave for nothing.
Supporters had expected this all to be sorted by now, but as we stand on the brink of a new year, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are still yet to sign new contracts.
The biggest worry is over Alexander-Arnold, who looks destined to join Real Madrid.
There has been markedly more optimism at Anfield over Van Dijk and Salah, though, and as 2024 turns into 2025, journalist David Ornstein has shared his information on where things stand with the veteran pair.

Liverpool still optimistic on Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah
If Liverpool do end up losing Alexander-Arnold on a free to Real Madrid, the backlash from fans is going to be ferocious.
The feeling towards the Liverpool academy graduate will change overnight.
However, of these three players, it is not particularly arguable that Alexander-Arnold is the least important to the Liverpool squad just now.
Salah is having a remarkable season while Van Dijk continues to be the best in his position in the world. The Reds need to do everything they can to keep them. Happily, speaking to NBC Sports on Monday, Ornstein says that the feeling is still that both will eventually sign.

“The feeling around Liverpool is that both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will eventually end up signing and the suggestion that I’m getting is that it will be a two-year contract,” says the well respected reporter.
“That’s what Arne Slot wants, that’s what Richard Hughes the sporting director wants and both players it is felt want to stay. What they need to get right is the financial aspects.”
“It’s going to go on for a bit longer because I’m told that there’s nothing imminent,” Ornstein adds.
What about Alexander-Arnold?
Ornstein addresses Alexander-Arnold’s future as well, and that is unfortunately less good news for Liverpool.
Nevertheless, it doesn’t sound like any of the three players are definite to be on their way out of Anfield next summer and that should give supporters hope.
For the time being, it has all felt relatively safe, with the end of the season still a little ways off.
But as the New Year arrives, things will start to move quickly towards Spring and if things are not sorted by then, that’s when the nerves will really arrive.
Either way, these three enormous topics are going to be resolved in the coming weeks and months. If it is to be two out of three, then let it be Van Dijk and Salah.
