What Liverpool insiders are saying about signing Man United target Milos Kerkez after Bournemouth buy replacement

With a week already gone in the January transfer window, Liverpool do not look likely to be especially active.

That will come as a disappointment to supporters, who would have been hoping for the Reds’ squad to be given a mid-season boost.

Perhaps the biggest concern in that respect is what is happening at left-back for Liverpool.

Andy Robertson has been struggling and with question marks over Kostas Tsimikas’ suitability as a first-choice, the left side of defence has quickly become an issue for Arne Slot.

One player who could seemingly fix that is Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez. Inevitably, Kerkez has been linked with Liverpool as they seek to identify Robertson’s long-term successor.

And after Bournemouth went out and bought Argentine left-back Julio Soler, it has now been revealed whether Liverpool are planning to move on Kerkez.

Liverpool insiders cool Milos Kerkez interest

Kerkez has had a really good season for Bournemouth, helping Andoni Iraola’s side into seventh place in the Premier League.

With the Hungarian performing so well, it is starting to feel like a matter of time before he leaves the Vitality Stadium.

According to TeamTALK, though, that is unlikely to result in a January transfer for Kerkez.

They claim that Bournemouth would be looking for around £40m to let the 21-year-old go this month, with it being described as ‘not easy’ to do a deal mid-season.

In terms of Liverpool, ‘sources close to the Reds’ have reportedly suggested that Kerkez is not a target at left-back.

Instead, after Bournemouth’s signing of Soler, it’s claimed that Man United are in the ‘driving seat’ for Kerkez, with Liverpool insiders having now ‘downplayed’ their own interest.

Time to move on from Kerkez

There was a time recently where Kerkez felt like the perfect signing for Liverpool. With Bournemouth bringing in Soler, something felt like it could happen in January.

However, it now feels probable that the former AZ player is not the man who Liverpool want.

In our opinion, the Reds should take a look at Owen Beck before deciding they need to sign a left-back at all. The Liverpool academy graduate has been excellent on-loan at Blackburn Rovers.

But if they do indeed dip into the transfer market, then Alphonso Davies should be their top target.

With Kerkez likely to remain at Bournemouth until the summer, things can still change here. But we’d suggest Liverpool fans start to think about different options.
