What Liverpool are still insisting about Federico Chiesa as they brace for January offers

The January transfer window is all set to fly open, with Liverpool unlikely to do too much business.

Supporters will be keeping an eye on the rumour mill and hoping Arne Slot sees fit to add a new face or two to his squad.

But while those fans may end up being disappointed, they could still see some action in terms of outgoings at Anfield.

Liverpool do not have much fat to trim on a group which has taken them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

However, there are several Liverpool players who could use a loan move for the second half of the campaign.

One of those is potentially Federico Chiesa, who has had a frustrating start to his career on Merseyside. And as reports filter in that Chiesa has interest in Italy, Liverpool have reportedly relayed a message about their No.14.

Liverpool planning long-term with Federico Chiesa

Chiesa’s time at Liverpool has been a real disappointment so far. A signing for around £12m, it had not been expected that the 27-year-old would set the world alight.

But given his reputation as an explosive, if injury-prone winger, more had certainly been hoped from Chiesa at this point.

As it is, the Italy international has made only four appearances for the Reds and has featured in just seven out of 27 matchday squads.

After he was left out of the party that travelled to West Ham on Sunday, Slot said Chiesa was still building his fitness.

While supporters may have already started to write the former Juventus man off, though, the Liverpool ECHO report that his club certainly are not.

They claim that Liverpool are ‘insisting’ that Chiesa is a long-term project and that they are not giving up on him. In the meantime, however, it is reported that loan offers may potentially arrive for the Euro 2020 winner in January.

Liverpool should not let Chiesa leave

Although he has had a smile virtually permanently plastered onto his face since arriving in September, there have been reports that Chiesa would like to leave Liverpool in the winter.

Whether that is true or not is likely to be deciphered over the coming month.

However the player himself is feeling, though, Liverpool should stick to their guns and keep Chiesa around for the full season.

The first half has been a little disastrous for him, there’s no getting away from that. But as he gets himself up to speed, surely the second is going to be better.

As Liverpool aim to go deep into every competition, Chiesa can still take on an important role. If he heads back home in January, it is going to do nothing help his long-term hopes at Anfield. Time to dig in, stick it out and hope Fede comes good. All is not lost just yet.
