Arne Slot drops January transfer window hint immediately after Liverpool’s mauling of West Ham

The Liverpool juggernaut thundered through West Ham United at the London Stadium as Arne Slot’s side came away with a 5-0 win.

With a game in hand, the Reds have an eight-point lead over second-placed Nottingham Forest, putting them in a fantastic position in the Premier League standings.

Slot’s side have lost just once in the competition this season and have started to steamroll teams in recent weeks, scoring 14 goals in their last three Premier League games.

There have been suggestions that Liverpool could add to their squad in January to aid their title push, with the Reds signing just Federico Chiesa in the summer transfer window.

And the Dutchman has had his say on whether that is a possibility for the Reds.

Arne Slot suggests Liverpool won’t sign anyone in January

Liverpool already have a strong squad with all bases covered, but in recent months, they have had a handful of injury concerns to deal with.

While the midfield and attack seem sorted for now, the Reds’ rearguard has been reduced to its bare bones with Joe Gomez limping off with a hamstring injury.

The likes of Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley are also injured and Kostas Tsimikas just returned from his own layoff, so reinforcements at the back may not be a bad idea for the Reds.

But Slot feels he isn’t thinking about adding players to his squad midway through the season, with the January transfer window just two days away from officially opening.

“There’s nothing in the media about who we’re going to bring in?” joked Slot to the journalists who attended the post-match press conference.

There wasn’t a response from anyone in the crowd, after which the Dutchman continued with a wry smile on his face: “Also not in my mind – I’m very happy with the squad we have.”

“I said this six months ago and everyone asked ‘Is this guy crazy?’ But I think the players showed that the confidence the club and I had in them was well deserved.”

Slot satisfied with Liverpool’s performance

Slot delivered an update on Gomez’s injury, adding that the central defender will be out for ‘quite a bit’ after picking up a hamstring injury.

Apart from that, it was largely a good night for Liverpool, with the Dutchman admitting that his players couldn’t have done too much better in an away game.

“The way I would like to see us play an away game. I think it’s always, especially in the Premier League, the defence come with a lot.

“There’s a lot of fans in every stadium we play. The stadium is always sold out if Liverpool comes.”
