Arne Slot shares update on Joe Gomez injury after Liverpool centre-back taken off at West Ham

Liverpool enjoyed their evening at the London Stadium after thrashing West Ham 5-0.

The Reds headed back to the capital with the knowledge that they could move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Given the battles they’ve had against the Hammers in the recent past, Liverpool may have expected a tough battle under the lights in East London.

But instead, Arne Slot and his team turned up and delivered a bruising 5-0 win.

On a terrific evening for the Reds, though, there was still room for some disappointment.

That came in the shape of Joe Gomez going down with a hamstring injury in the first-half. And after Gomez was subbed off for Jarell Quansah, Slot shared a post-match update on his condition.

Joe Gomez set for spell out

Liverpool could have done without any more problems in their defence.

The Reds may be flying at the moment, but they have been struggling to get numbers on the board in their back line.

With Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley still missing, Gomez’s injury could not have been worse timed.

And although Konate is on the comeback trail, Slot told Sky Sports that it looks like Gomez could now miss a spell.

“If a player makes a sprint then asks to go out we know it is a hamstring and we all know it will take a while before he’s back,” said the Liverpool head coach.

“I don’t know how long but he will be out for quite a bit.”

Liverpool sweating on centre-back fitness

Liverpool could really have done without Gomez being the man who picked up a new knock at West Ham.

Luckily, there is now a full week before the Reds play again, though.

But by the sounds of things, Gomez will certainly not be ready to face Manchester United at Anfield next Sunday.

As a result, Liverpool supporters will be hopeful that Konate can complete his recovery and be back in contention to face their historic rivals.

If Ibou cannot make it, though, Jarell Quansah sent a reminder against West Ham that he is more than capable of stepping in and doing a job. Get well soon, Joe.
