Liverpool could be on the lookout for a new forward player over the next two transfer windows.

The Reds have been unable to rely on either Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota for form and fitness over the season so far.

As a result, it feels possible that Arne Slot will be seeking someone new to lead the line for Liverpool in 2025.

And while the Reds cast their eye over the football world to decipher who the answer could be, it’s more than likely that Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha has caught their attention.

Cunha has been in sizzling form for Wolves, bagging himself 10 Premier League goals and four assists across 18 appearances.

And as the 25-year-old comes onto the radar of some of Europe’s biggest sides, it turns out that he has a soft spot for a certain former Liverpool player.

Matheus Cunha sends Philippe Coutinho message

Cunha certainly looks like he could be playing his final season at Wolves this year. The former Atletico Madrid man seems set for bigger things.

And although Liverpool have not yet been mentioned as a potential next move for Cunha, perhaps they will still enter the frame.

If they do, then Cunha could be following in the footsteps of a player he clearly admires in Philippe Coutinho.

On Saturday, the Brazilian spotted a statistic posted on CBS Sports Golazo, which compared Cunha’s Wolves form in 2024 to Coutinho’s record at Liverpool in 2017.

With 16 goals and six assists, the Wolves attacker is certainly comparable to Coutinho, who found the net 15 times and laid on eight assists in the year before his big move to Barcelona.

And after reposting on his Instagram stories, Cunha also added a short and sweet message for Coutinho. “The little magician!” he wrote, tagging in Liverpool’s former number 10. “Always your fan.”

Could Liverpool target Cunha?

Still only 25, Cunha could be an interesting player to watch in the transfer market over the next eight months or so.

Having previously been a bright spark in a woefully underperforming Wolves team under Gary O’Neil, the Brazil international looks set to lead them to better things with Vitor Pereira at the helm.

Nevertheless, he is also clearly destined to play for a bigger club. Reports claimed that Liverpool were offered Cunha in 2022, but nothing ever materialised.

But given their potential need for another multi-functional, but mainly central, forward, it would not be a surprise if the former Hertha Berlin star did crop up as a target.

Coutinho is not the only player with a Liverpool connection who Cunha has a connection with either. In 2022, Cunha sent a message to Ibrahima Konate, whom he played with at RB Leipzig, to let the centre-back know that he loves him.

Maybe it’s time for agent Ibou to get to work.
