‘I love you’: £34m player sends message to Ibrahima Konate after claims his agents offered him to Liverpool

Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha messaged Ibrahima Konaté this week after reports he’s been offered to Liverpool.

Ibrahima Konaté broke his silence after France’s World Cup final defeat with an Instagram post on Monday. Understandably, he was feeling philosophical. “All great successes were preceded by several great failures,” he said.

One interesting reply to that came from Matheus Cunha. The Atletico Madrid forward has been linked with Liverpool in recent days, with 90min claiming his agent offered him to the Reds.

And so it’s notable that Cunha took the time to message Konaté on Instagram. “Ibuuuuu I love you,” he wrote.

It doesn’t seem that Cunha is on his way to Anfield, however. Fabrizio Romano reports that he’s now heading to Wolves on loan, with an option to buy for around £34m.

That could be a fantastic deal for them. Cunha is a player we like and we vouched for Liverpool signing him back in 2021. We saw him, at the time, as a potential Roberto Firmino replacement.

His transfer to Atletico hasn’t really worked out, however. Their poor form looks set to force a true rebuild at the club, with Cunha one of many players linked with a move away.

Joao Félix is perhaps the biggest name of those. Rodrigo De Paul is another – and once again, someone previously linked with Liverpool. We’d like to see the Argentine at Liverpool. Cunha appears gone as an option but De Paul may be on the market.

But Cunha is certainly one to watch at Wolves. The size of his option to buy shows the level of talent there – he can become a fantastic player for them and he’s still only 23.

And if he truly performs, perhaps Liverpool try to link him up with Konaté down the line.
