Liverpool have been offered Matheus Cunha, according to reports. Atletico Madrid put an interesting deal on the table.

This comes from 90min. They claim that Atletico Madrid are trying to find a new home for Matheus Cunha. That involves offering him out to clubs – of which Liverpool are one of them.

Atletico have an idea in mind for a deal, too. They’re willing to send him somewhere on loan with an option to buy. In other words, a club can look at Cunha before making a permanent decision.

That apparently has ‘many of the sides’ considering the deal. It isn’t said whether Liverpool are one of those – but it’s a deal we’d quite like to see.

Liverpool offered Matheus Cunha

We’re fans of Cunha and actually hoped Liverpool would make a move for him back in 2021. He was shining brightly for Hertha BSC, despite them battling relegation at the time.

And Cunha did that as a 22-year-old. He’s got the ability to create and score goals – after all, there’s a reason he’s managed to win 8 caps for Brazil over the last two years.

Cunha is now 23 and not really working out at Atletico. Not that he’s the only one you can say that about – Joao Felix is also reportedly leaving the club in 2023.

In other words, Cunha just isn’t at the right club. That gives an opportunity for the ‘right’ club to make a move and that could well be Liverpool. They’ve lost lost Luis Díaz for the next few months, while Diogo Jota is out, too. Cunha could cover for them in the forward positions.

And perhaps he’s a long-term option to replace Roberto Firmino? He’s out of contract in the summer and the Reds will want someone new. Cunha’s creativity could fill his void – or at least show Liverpool an alternative while they mull over a new contract.

We’d be interested to see Liverpool try Cunha for six months, then. There doesn’t seem to be much to lose.
