With the January transfer window just around the corner, talk is starting to turn to who Liverpool could bring in over the New Year.
The Reds have been active in winter windows in the past, signing the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and more over the years.
This year, supporters would love to see some similar kind of statements from Arne Slot.
With Liverpool going so well in the Premier League and Champions League, there is a sense that they must capitalise and add to the first-team squad while they can.
One of the key areas the Liverpool squad could do with bolstering is in the midfield.
And according to former Reds striker Michael Owen, if he were Liverpool manager he’d be looking at trying to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea.

Michael Owen backs Enzo Fernandez for Liverpool
Liverpool were linked with Fernandez during his early days as a Benfica player back in 2022.
However, with Chelsea steaming into the race to get the Argentinian, they ensured that no other club could compete.
The Blues ultimately signed Enzo for more than £100m in January 2023. Since then, the 23-year-old has struggled a little to live up to that price-tag.
However, with Enzo Maresca revitalising Chelsea this season, Fernandez is now looking like the player everybody expected he could be. So, when asked by ESPN Argentina to name the Argentinian he would bring to Liverpool, Owen’s answer of Fernandez now looks like a decent one.

“I like Enzo Fernandez, I think he’s brilliant, I really like him,” raved the former Red. “When they signed him and Caicedo I thought that could be the best partnership in the Premier League. It took a long time to gel but now they’re starting to look good.
“But I think Enzo Fernandez is top class. If I were the Liverpool manager and I had to put an Argentinian in there now, I think I would probably play him in midfield.”
Owen dismisses Alejandro Garnacho
Fernandez was of course not Owen’s first pick when asked for the Argentinian he would sign if he were somehow named as Liverpool boss.
“Well obviously Maradona and Messi, they’re straight in!” laughed the pundit, before also hailing Gabriel Batistuta.
However, one player who did not make the cut was Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho.
“Garnacho is good, Garnacho is good,” Owen pondered. “Would he get into Liverpool’s team? I don’t think so.”
With Garnacho struggling to even get into United’s XI at the moment, we think that’s a good shout from Mo. Fernandez is, too, although Owen does seem to be overlooking the fact that Liverpool already have a top Argentine in Alexis Mac Allister. He’s the best there’s been from the Argentine for a reason, Michael!
