Liverpool install Joao Pedro on transfer shortlist as Brighton name their price-tag

Darwin Nunez got back to scoring ways for Liverpool with a Carabao Cup goal against Southampton on Wednesday.

Nunez has come under fire for some sloppy performances recently and prior to his strike at St Mary’s had scored just once in his previous 11 appearances.

Although the goal will hopefully lead to a few more for the Uruguayan, there are now starting to be real question marks over his Liverpool future.

There have been suggestions that Liverpool could move Nunez on if he does not start to improve and that is a reality which now feels probable.

If that does ultimately end up happening, then Arne Slot is surely going to be looking for a new central striker to add to the Liverpool squad.

And according to journalist Graeme Bailey, Brighton’s Joao Pedro is very much on the Reds’ shortlist.

Liverpool keen on £100m Joao Pedro

Pedro has been in excellent form for Brighton this season, scoring four goals in ten Premier League matches. This has led to suggestions that Liverpool are watching Pedro as they ponder a new forward addition.

And speaking exclusively to Rousing The Kop, Bailey corroborates those claims, revealing that the Reds have been scouting the Brazilian since his days as a youngster with Fluminense.

“Liverpool know all about him, I’m told they knew about him even before he went to Watford [in January 2020], so he’s someone on their radar,” says the transfer expert.

“From what I’m told it isn’t just wingers that Liverpool are looking at. If they do decide to move on from a Darwin Nunez then they are doing their due diligence and always refreshing their reports.”

“They are doing work on these kinds of players, looking at who is next up and Pedro is one of the best in the Premier League on current form. He’s one who has come on their radar for sure.”

However, according to Bailey, Brighton are already hoping to secure a huge £100m windfall should they sell Pedro.

“£100m is the figure that Brighton are talking about,” the journalist explains.

Bailey backs £100m price-tag

While £100m sounds a lot to pay for Liverpool to pay for any player, it’s worth remembering that the Reds did nearly stump up that fee for Moises Caicedo from Brighton in 2023.

And according to Bailey, Pedro is someone who could certainly justify that kind of valuation.

“When you take into account what he is as a 23-year-old Brazil international, someone who’s done it in England, getting better, he could play any one of those forward positions, he’d be an ideal fit across the front line,” he says.

“I think he’s a fantastic fit for Liverpool. Yes, he’s expensive but I think if you look at Sesko, Gyokeres, Isak, whoever, Pedro’s got a massive ceiling.”

Brighton look like they have found another gem to turn at big profit. Will Pedro join Alexis Mac Allister in swapping the Seagulls for the Reds in 2025?
