Liverpool could find themselves looking for new defenders during the upcoming transfer markets.
The Reds are still unsure exactly whether they’ll need to find replacement signings at either centre-half or right-back.
But as contract negotiations continue with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool need to cover every eventuality.
As a result, it has been no surprise to see the Reds linked with right-backs who could come in and take over from Alexander-Arnold.
One player who has been heavily mentioned in that respect is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.
And having played alongside Frimpong with the Netherlands national team, Liverpool captain Van Dijk has been asked to described the reported Reds target with one word.

Virgil van Dijk gives ‘rapid’ Jeremie Frimpong answer
Frimpong would not feel like a natural replacement for Alexander-Arnold at right-back.
The 24-year-old is more of a wing-back who could be described as a goal scorer rather than a goal creator like the Liverpool academy graduate.
Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped reports that Frimpong has already agreed to join Liverpool for £50m in 2025.
With those claims in mind, supporters will have been interested to note Van Dijk’s new comments on his compatriot.

Asked by GOAL to describe fellow FIFPRO World XI defensive nominees in one word, the 33-year-old has no hesitation when it comes to Frimpong.
“Rapid!” says Van Dijk with a grin and a shake of the head.
Frimpong is not what Liverpool need
There is little question that Frimpong is a rising star within the game. The former Man City academy prospect has been shining at Leverkusen.
This has naturally raised links with bigger clubs across the continent and it seems inevitable that Frimpong will end up at one of those teams.
| Assists | Goals | Successful Passes | Accurate Long Balls | Chances Created | Duels Won % | |
| Trent Alexander-Arnold | 3 | 0 | 37.56 | 3.44 | 2.32 | 48.5 |
| Jeremie Frimpong | 2 | 2 | 22.48 | 0.30 | 1.49 | 38.3 |
However, regardless of what happens with Alexander-Arnold, that should not be Liverpool.
Of course, we cannot say for sure what Arne Slot is planning to do with his full-backs. It could be that he has a different idea altogether when he shapes his own Liverpool squad.
But for the way the Reds are currently setting up, Frimpong would not appear to fit.
More pace is never a bad thing, but we’d still be surprised if Van Dijk and his Netherlands teammate are at Anfield together next year.
