£50m title-winning player has already agreed to join Liverpool after transfer talks

Liverpool might be setting themselves for plenty to do in the transfer market during 2025.

The Reds signed only one player throughout the whole of 2024, but the contract situations of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah mean that is unlikely to be enough next year.

There supposedly remains hope at Anfield that they can come to agreements with each of their three star players.

However, the clock is certainly ticking. If Liverpool end up losing any or all of the three, they will each need replacing.

Given the quality of Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold and Salah, they are not easy players to replicate.

Nevertheless, it has been claimed that Liverpool are at least trying. And it appears that they have moved forward with the potential capture of Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Jeremie Frimpong wants Liverpool move

Liverpool have been linked with Frimpong even before Alexander-Arnold’s contract became a real issue.

The 23-year-old has been one of the standout right-sided players in Europe over the past 18 months.

And according to Sky Sports Switzerland, the Reds have now stepped up their attempts to add Frimpong to the Liverpool squad.

They claim that with Alexander-Arnold now ‘closer than ever’ to joining Real Madrid, Liverpool want to ‘anticipate’ the Scouser leaving and get a jump on alternatives in the market.

With this remit in mind, the Reds are said to be ‘betting on Frimpong’ who is reportedly seen to be a perfect fit for Arne Slot’s philosophy.

Regular contact has reportedly been made between Liverpool and Frimpong in recent weeks, with the former Man City academy player having now supposedly ‘given his approval’ to the move.

It’s claimed that there has still been no formal contact between Liverpool and Leverkusen for Frimpong, but the good relationship between the two clubs is said to be helpful here. The German champions are reportedly looking for around £50m to sell the Dutchman.

Other options might be better fits at Liverpool

Although Sky report that Frimpong may be the perfect player for Liverpool, we’d dispute that a little.

The main issue with Alexander-Arnold within the Reds system has always been his defensive shortcomings, no matter how overblown they are.

Anyone who has watched Frimpong play will know that defending is also very much a secondary activity for him.

The Netherlands international is virtually a right winger at times and it would be a change of approach for him to play as a more orthodox right-back for Liverpool.

Reports claim that Liverpool have other options at right-back, such as Vanderson of Monaco or Fiorentina’s Michael Kayode, and we’d imagine that both would be slightly better fits than Frimpong.
