Arne Slot was named as Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Liverpool in the summer, and it’s safe to say that the Dutch coach has done a remarkable job.

The Reds sit top of the Premier League and UEFA Champions League standings with Slot winning an incredible 18 of his first 21 games in charge at Liverpool, with the Anfield side on course to win silverware this season.

With Carlo Ancelotti admitting that facing Slot’s Liverpool has forced him to change his own tactics at Real Madrid, the former Feyenoord manager’s impact with the Premier League side has already had quite the effect across the continent.

And Slot has now shared what Klopp did at Liverpool to give him the ideal start to life in Merseyside.

Slot says Klopp’s farewell speech set him up perfectly to become Liverpool’s manager

Speaking to TNT Sports, Slot mentioned how Klopp getting Liverpool fans on his side in the German manager’s farewell speech set the new Reds’ boss up perfectly to take on the hot seat at Anfield this season.

Replacing Klopp was viewed by many as an impossible job at Liverpool, yet the support from the former manager coupled with Slot’s tactics and ideas has given the Dutchman the ultimate platform to succeed in his first year in charge.

Slot said when asked how he thinks he’s started so well at Liverpool since being appointed: “I think it helped me as well the way Jurgen said farewell. He immediately set me off to a good start with what he did for me in the stadium.

“And then the most important thing is winning games, because no matter how you look, or no matter how nice you are, if you are nice or if you are good-looking – which is a question mark for me!”

What can Slot do to maintain Liverpool’s form in 2025?

2025 is shaping up to be a decisive year for Liverpool, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk all currently set to become free-agents with their contracts expiring at the end of this season.

As well as tying down the trio to new deals, signings are a must for the Reds heading into 2025, with Liverpool believed to be interested in strengthening four positions next year, including central defence and midfield.

Indeed, Slot’s start to life at Liverpool has been beyond anything fans would have expected from the Dutch manager this season, and 2025 could be a big year for the Reds if they can make the right decisions and bring in the right players.
