Arne Slot states what he’s ‘expecting’ Mo Salah to do at Liverpool after Newcastle heroics

Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw by Newcastle United at St James’ Park as the home side scored a last-gasp equaliser to deny the Reds all three points.

A brace from Mohamed Salah and a goal from Curtis Jones on his 150th appearance for Liverpool gave them a point, as Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Fabian Schar got their names on the scoresheet for the home side.

The Reds really turned it around after an underwhelming display in the first half as Salah took centre stage with an outstanding showing.

And Arne Slot made an interesting claim on the Egyptian after the game after his side’s lead at the top was cut to seven points.

Before the internal, Salah was largely kept at bay by Lewis Hall as he found it difficult to impose himself on the game.

He could have easily allowed his head to drop and fizzled out in the second half, but that wasn’t to be the case.

Salah got things going for Liverpool with a brilliant assist for Jones and scored a brace – both of them assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold – to get Liverpool a precious point away from home.

Amid uncertainty over his future – with his contract running out next summer – Slot claimed he expects Salah to continue delivering the goods for a ‘long’ time.

“After the week we had we could change the game which is a very positive thing to take,” said Slot on Amazon Prime after the game.

“Every time we need Mo Salah he scores a goal. We are hoping and expecting he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half, he did many special things for us.”
