Liverpool dropped two valuable points away from home as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Newcastle United after a thrilling game of football.

A frantic second half saw Fabian Schar have the last laugh for the Magpies as he capitalised on an error from Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to score a late equaliser.

The six-goal thriller produced a lot of talking points and standout performers as Liverpool’s gap at the top of the table was reduced to seven after Arsenal’s win against Manchester United.

And Arne Slot singled out one Newcastle United player for special praise after what he did against his team.

Newcastle were the better team in the first half and deservedly went into the interval with a 1-0 lead thanks to Alexander Isak, who scored a fantastic goal from outside the area after skipping past Virgil van Dijk.

The Swedish international took his shot really quickly and his fierce hit appeared to take Kelleher by surprise as he was well beaten.

Speaking after the game, Slot lauded the gifted striker for his wonder goal that broke the deadlock.

“Newcastle have so much quality throughout the squad but especially up front,” said Slot at a press conference.

“They were able to score goals – that’s not a surprise for me. The first one, pwah what a finish that. That shot from Isak – I don’t even know if Caoimh saw that ball, as hard as it was.”

Isak has admirers at Anfield

The Swede showed why he has quickly emerged as one of the most wanted strikers in world football as his fantastic strike set Newcastle on their way to a well-earned draw.

Speaking exclusively to Rousing the Kop, Graeme Bailey confirmed that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Isak, while his compatriot Viktor Gyokeres has also emerged as a potential target.

With Diogo Jota struggling with injuries and Darwin Nunez flattering to deceive, it might be time for Liverpool to make some hard calls to refresh their attack.
