New theory going around inside Liverpool about their three expiring contracts

Liverpool are coming to a crucial period of their season both on the pitch as well as off it.

In terms of results, the campaign could hardly be going better for Arne Slot. His new-look Reds team are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League heading into Christmans.

The festive period marks the halfway point of the season and if Liverpool can maintain a good portion of their lead into the New Year then they’ll be favourites to lift the title.

Unfortunately, the turning of the year can also be seen from a negative slant at Anfield this time, too.

It marks the point in which star men Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk can all openly speak to other clubs about joining in the summer.

As the clock continues to run down on these three enormous contracts for Liverpool, those inside the club reportedly have a theory on the best plan of action.

Liverpool plotting contract plan

Salah ratcheted things up a notch or two on the panic scale for Liverpool supporters with his comments after the Reds win at Southampton on Sunday.

Despite assertions that contract talks with Salah have been positive, the Egyptian confirmed that he has had no formal offer from the Liverpool owners.

His claims have predictably sent the media into a frenzy, with The Independent one of those to feature a lengthy piece on Salah’s current situation.

They suggest that ‘some close to the situation’ have seen the 32-year-old’s claims as simply being a way of trying to force Liverpool’s hand into giving him what he wants.

It’s also reported that Salah making a rare effort to speak to the press is being seen as an emotion-led decision and not one that was necessarily pre-planned.

One final, interesting point is the detailing of a ‘theory’ from those inside Anfield on what is the best course of action with the three soon-to-be-expiring contracts.

There has reportedly been a plan ‘floated around’ at Liverpool that the best thing to do would be to sort two contracts simultaneously and then announce them to put pressure on the third to follow suit. Perhaps that’s easier said than done.

Which two contracts could get sorted first?

If it was as simple as getting two deals sealed and over the line like this then Liverpool would surely have already done it.

Part of the problem is that all three players are likely waiting to see what their teammates are offered before coming with their own demands.

This has clearly resulted in a stand-off between club and players where both are waiting for the other to blink.

Throughout the whole saga, though, the easiest contract to get sorted has been seen as Van Dijk’s, with Salah’s perhaps at the other end of the scale.

If Liverpool can box of both Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold first, then surely Salah will follow suit. If it’s going to happen, though, it needs to start happening quickly.
