Liverpool are set for a big week as Real Madrid and then Manchester City come to Anfield.
The Reds have put themselves in a great position in the Premier League and Champions League but the visits of the European and English champions will put that to the test.
In the build-up to such a mammoth week for Liverpool, though, the two tricky fixtures have taken something of a backseat.
Instead, the focus has all been on superstar forward Mohamed Salah.
Salah made a rare public appearance after scoring twice in Liverpool’s win over Southampton on Sunday to confirm his ‘disappointment’ at not yet being offered a new contract to stay at Anfield.
As the fallout from the Egyptian’s fairly explosive comments continues on Tuesday, journalist David Ornstein has provided an encouraging update on what could happen next.

Liverpool holding positive talks with Mohamed Salah
Since Salah’s very public message to Liverpool owners, the reaction has been vociferous from supporters.
Fans are desperate for Salah to stay and at this point would seemingly be willing to do whatever it takes to keep Mo on Merseyside.
Thankfully, Liverpool insiders have insisted that talks have been going well with the 32-year-old and speaking via The Athletic on X, Ornstein confirms that to be the case from his understanding.
“It’s clear Salah wants to stay at Liverpool and vice versa. But it will come down to whether Liverpool will/can meet his expectations,” explains the highly respected journalist.

“I hear talks are positive, even if no formal offer has landed to date.
“This is not as simple as it might seem and there are many factors. But Salah remains world-class on the pitch and is showing no signs of slowing, his conduct off the field is said to be exemplary and he’d surely have his pick of clubs if he were on the market.
“Personal opinion?” ventures Ornstein. “They eventually reach an agreement to renew.”
Jamie Carragher ‘very disappointed’ in Mohamed Salah
The reaction from Liverpool fans towards Salah’s comments has been intriguing to watch. For many, the club’s incompetence is now on full display and the player’s wishes should be adhered to virtually without question.
For Jamie Carragher, however, there is a different side to things. Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, the Liverpool legend questioned the timing of Salah’s comments.
“I must say, I am very disappointed with Mo Salah,” said Carragher. “Liverpool have got Real Madrid in midweek and Manchester City at the weekend. That’s the story for Liverpool right now.
“Certainly, the local reporters in Liverpool are very aware that in the seven years he’s been at the football club he’s stopped in the mixed zone twice, which is his right, that’s absolutely fine.
“But he’s decided to stop for the third time after wining Liverpool the game and putting that out. The most important thing for Liverpool Football Club this season is not the future of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk or Trent Alexander-Arnold. It’s Liverpool winning the Premier League.”
While plenty of fans would likely disagree with Carragher’s take, the former centre-back certainly has a point. The Reds have a huge two games coming up and could have done without a sideshow happening before the fact.
