Darwin Nunez led the line for Uruguay as they secured a dramatic 3-2 win against Colombia in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Liverpool striker didn’t manage to get his name on the scoresheet, but he got the better of club teammate Luis Diaz on the night, who started for Colombia.
Arne Slot recently praised Nunez for his performances for Liverpool as he continues to lead the line for the Reds in the absence of Diogo Jota.
And now, the Uruguayan media have had their say on his performance after what turned out to be an eventful game of football.

Before the international break, Alan Shearer called for Nunez to improve in front of goal after Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa where he missed a couple of golden chances.
Against Colombia, though, he didn’t have too many sights at goal but he did his reputation no harm with a fighting display for Marcelo Bielsa.
El Observador rated his performance five out of ten, but they actually praised the Liverpool striker for his persistence and commitment to the team.
“He won from above in the first corner he defended. He pressed with power and ferocity. He threw himself out wide, he lent himself to being assisted.
“He persisted. He had no chances. He took a dangerous free kick at the end of the first half.
“He created the foul and kicked well. It was saved. In the second half he fought, he shot wide and was a bastion of effort, without any chances to score.”
