Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Liverpool ends next summer, and all signs point towards the defender joining Real Madrid.

Los Blancos have made it a habit of sort in recent years in securing some of the best players on the planet without having to pay a transfer fee, with Madrid signing Kylian Mbappe this summer having added Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba beforehand.

And Madrid now look set to add Alexander-Arnold to their superstar roster next summer, with Liverpool failing to make any breakthroughs in trying to commit the England international to a new long-term contract.

Now, Madrid insiders have had their say on how they really feel about the move for Alexander-Arnold.

Real Madrid officials view Alexander-Arnold as a ‘big’ signing

According to Marca, Madrid officials regard the potential capture of Alexander-Arnold as a ‘big’ signing for the La Liga giants, with the reigning Spanish champions determined to bring the 26-year-old to the Bernabeu.

With Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s contracts also coming to an end next summer at Liverpool, the Reds face a potential nightmare scenario where Arne Slot could lose his three most important outfield players for absolutely nothing.

Indeed, 2025 is shaping up to be a big year for Liverpool in regards to changes in their playing squad, with Alexander-Arnold’s move to Madrid now looking like a guarantee based on the current climate of the transfer saga.

And for Liverpool, the Anfield side need to ensure they are looking into replacements for Alexander-Arnold, who will be an impossible player to replace for Slot, with the prospect of the right-back position getting a makeover a real prospect.

Who could replace Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool next season?

Having spent so little this summer, there’s a real chance that 2025 could see Liverpool attack both the January transfer window and the off-season market, with Alexander-Arnold’s departure giving the Reds one position to prioritise right off the back.

Thankfully for the Anfield side, there are options in the market, with Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, who impressed Luis Garcia at Anfield earlier in the season under Xabi Alonso.

Another option for Liverpool is of course Conor Bradley, who has caught the eye already this year for the Reds when deputising for Alexander-Arnold, with the Northern Ireland set for a run in the starting XI with the 26-year-old out for a few weeks.
