Arne Slot was this summer appointed as Liverpool’s newest manager, with the Dutch coach taking to the job like a duck to water.
The former Feyenoord head coach has won an incredible 15 of his first 17 games in charge of the Reds, with Liverpool sat top of the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League standings heading into the November international break.

With Michael Owen a fan of Slot’s managerial style at Liverpool, the new Anfield boss has impressed everyone since taking on the impossible role of replacing Jurgen Klopp, a job nobody thought could be done.
And Cody Gakpo has now shared what Slot told him shortly after arriving as Liverpool manager.

Gakpo told by Slot his best position for Liverpool is on the left
Speaking to Men in Blazers, the Dutch international revealed that Slot quickly told him that his best position for Liverpool is out on the left-wing, with Gakpo since impressing in the role having battled it out with Luis Diaz this season.
“Before I came to Liverpool I also played as a left winger. Then I came here and I started to play more as a central striker. At the Euros, I played as a left winger again.
“Then this season the new manager came in, I had a talk with him and he said: ‘You have to focus on the left winger position, this is your position when you come on or when you start.’ He said there’s a lot of competition here, so you just have to show yourself.
“But he said: ‘That is going to be your position.’ It felt a little bit, for me, like the old me, like what I did at PSV as well. I feel really good in this position. I try to show my best to everybody, what I’m capable of.”

How good has Gakpo been this season at Liverpool under Slot?
Gakpo’s first two years at Liverpool have been a mixed bag, with the former PSV Eindhoven star yet to really hit the heights many expected from the Dutch international after his sensational final year in the Netherlands.
| Cody Gakpo’s 2024/25 stats | Games played | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 11 | 1 | 1 |
| UEFA Champions League | 4 | 1 | 1 |
| League Cup | 2 | 4 | 0 |
| Total | 17 | 6 | 2 |
Yet as per Gakpo’s stats this season at Liverpool, the winger has more than impressed with the minutes given to him, with the 25-year-old yet to fully displace Diaz as the starting left-sided attacker with the Reds.
Indeed, Gakpo has been a real asset for Slot as an option from the bench this season at Liverpool, and the forward will want to keep proving his worth once the squad are back together after the November international break.
