Arne Slot set to make another addition to backroom staff as former Man City coach joins Liverpool

Arne Slot has enjoyed a dream start at Liverpool since replacing Jurgen Klopp at the helm after the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

The Dutchman arrived with a fantastic reputation, having enjoyed successful stints with AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.

Much like Klopp – who had Pep Lijnders and Peter Kraweitz with him as part of his backroom team, among others – Slot brought his team from Feyenoord to join his Liverpool coaching staff.

The likes of Sipke Hulshoff and Ruben Peeters are well known at this stage, while Fabian Otte and Jonny Heitinga have also earned rave reviews for their work so far at Anfield.

And now, it appears as if another member has been added to the Dutchman’s team.

David Breen joins Arne Slot’s coaching staff at Liverpool

The ongoing international break has given Slot time to recuperate after what has been a busy spell across all competitions for Liverpool.

However, judging by the Reds’ recent activity, the Dutchman isn’t wasting too much time and is already looking ahead to the future.

Yesterday, reports from the Netherlands confirmed that Roderick van der Ham will join Liverpool as a video analyst, having already worked with Slot at Feyenoord.

And now, the Reds have made another exciting addition to their backroom staff, with David Breen joining as their new first-team physio.

Who is David Breen?

The 39-year-old is a former Irish hurler who played the entirety of his club career with Na Piarsaigh.

Breen is believed to be a renowned name in the world of sport and previously held roles with the Republic of Ireland and the Manchester City Academy, having also worked with Premiership Rugby side Harlequins, Munster Rugby, Wasps Rugby and in the Leinster Rugby academy.

Liverpool currently don’t have a full-fledged first-team physio, so the Irishman is joining the club to fill an existing vacancy.

However, with Peeters serving as the club’s lead physical performance coach, Breen is likely to work closely with the Belgian in what could turn out to be an important role as the season progresses.
