Arne Slot has once again guided Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table after a narrow 2-1 win over Brighton.

Liverpool raised the intensity in the second-half at Anfield, having gone 1-0 down after 14 minutes to a superb Ferdi Kadioglu goal.

But Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool in the 70th minute, with Mohamed Salah netting a fantastic winner just two minutes later.

The Merseyside club are now two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, with the latter having lost 2-1 to Bournemouth.

Arsenal meanwhile also slipped up as they lost 1-0 to Newcastle United, in an added boost to Slot and his players.

Tony Cascarino singles out Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alexis Mac Allister

But it wasn’t all good news for Liverpool, who lost Ibrahima Konate at half-time to injury, replaced by Curtis Jones.

That wasn’t, however, the only negative for the hosts according to Tony Cascarino, who said on talkSPORT: “Brighton were superb. It was literally chance after chance. [Kaoru] Mitoma was causing all sorts of problems.

“They were getting in behind Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. Trent’s passing was off, so there were issues there. [Alexis] Mac Allister couldn’t get going in midfield. It looked like they were going to huff and puff, and Brighton could have gone 2-0 up quite easily in the first half.

“Fair play to Arne slot, because one thing that he did was the introduction of Curtis Jones and [Luis] Diaz that added way different energy, caused Brighton way more problems.”

Arne Slot continues to pass tricky Liverpool tests

It was never going to be an easy match for Liverpool, who had only just narrowly beaten Brighton in League Cup action.

The Amex Stadium played host to the round of 16 encounter on Wednesday evening, which the visitors won 3-2.

Slot may have plenty to say to his players in training regarding the first-half at Anfield, but he will have very few complaints about the second.

It was a superb comeback from the Reds, who showed their determination and willingness to fight for one another to get the three points.

And those three points meant even more amid the slip-ups of both Man City and Arsenal, with the Reds in a fantastic position after 10 matches.

Liverpool now have eight wins, one draw and one loss under Slot, with 19 goals scored and just six conceded.
