Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been joined by another Dutchman in a Premier League dugout, with Ruud van Nistelrooy in charge of Man United.

Van Nistelrooy is, however, only in interim charge at Old Trafford, with Slot impressing at Liverpool since taking over permanently from Jurgen Klopp.

Both Premier League clubs were in League Cup action on Wednesday, and both secured passage to the quarter-finals.

Slot guided Liverpool to a 3-2 win at Brighton, with Van Nistelrooy overseeing a 5-2 Man United win over Leicester City.

Richard Keys has drawn similarities between Man Utd and Liverpool following the sacking of Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman losing his job earlier this week.

“I was delighted for Casemiro,” said Van Nistelrooy. “The way he has been training and helping the team, such an example, we are delighted to have him around. He was almost blamed for the Liverpool game. It is not fair, totally not true. He is an example for us.”

Van Nistelrooy was, of course, referring to the Premier League meeting between the two clubs last month, which Liverpool won 3-0.

Luis Diaz scored twice and Mohamed Salah added a third at Old Trafford, where Casemiro endured a torrid afternoon, losing possession for two of the three goals.

But the midfielder now has three goals in his last two matches, having scored in the 2-1 defeat at West Ham on Sunday.

Man Utd undoubtedly need their senior players to step up at this moment in time, and Casemiro is certainly in that category.

Slot meanwhile was able to rest several of his key men for the trip to Brighton, who now visit Anfield in Premier League action on Saturday.
