Erik Ten Hag was this week sacked as Manchester United manager after a historic bad start for the Red Devils in the Premier League.

The Old Trafford side sit 14th in the standings with United already 11 points off Liverpool, who under Arne Slot beat the Manchester giants earlier in the season 3-0 in a convincing performance from the Reds.

With Ten Hag a big fan of Slot’s work at Liverpool, the two Dutch managers have a connection forged by their time together coaching in the Eredivisie, though the Anfield side will be more pleased with how their appointment from the Netherlands is turning out.

And Slot has now shared his honest reaction about Ten Hag being sacked by United.

Slot sad to see Ten Hag sacked by Manchester United

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow night’s League Cup clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, Slot shared his honest thoughts on Ten Hag getting the boot from United, with the Liverpool coach sad to see a fellow Dutch manager lose his job.

Slot and Ten Hag’s relationship on the surface appears to be a positive one, and that was shown in today’s press conference, with the Liverpool manager sharing some nice words about the former United boss after yesterday’s bombshell.

Slot said: “He’s a Dutch manager so it makes it even harder for me and for us as Dutch people. Your first thoughts are always with the person, we are all in this job so we know that it can happen, but it hurts, especially since I know him a little and how much he works put into the job.

“To get this news is a pity, but we also know, especially coming from Holland, how well he did at Ajax and that he won two trophies over here, so we will see in the near future at a big club. But at this moment for him and his family, tragedy is perhaps a bit too much but it is a disappointment.”

Slot right to predict that Ten Hag will land a big job soon

Ten Hag’s tenure at United will go down as another disaster for the Manchester side, who are now hitting 11 years since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson with the Red Devils still struggling to find a true successor to the Scotsman’s throne.

Yet for Ten Hag, being sacked by United is not the end of the road for the Dutch manager, who could find himself with a big job in 2025, with many teams likely eyeing the former Ajax man as a potential head coach.

Indeed, United will now hope that their next manager can do what the others have not and stick the landing, with Liverpool showing with Slot that there is a way to succeed a legendary coach in the modern era.
