Liverpool could be on a mission to replace Mohamed Salah next summer, and one potential target could be Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was key in Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga and DFB Pokal winning season, with Wirtz already a target for Liverpool as the youngster also played a starring role for Germany at Euro 2024 this summer.
Although Liverpool aren’t the favourites to sign Wirtz, a move to Anfield could be appealing for the youngster if an offer was to be made by the Reds, who could view the Leverkusen superstar as their successor to Salah.
And Liverpool now know how much they’ll need to pay if they want to sign Wirtz next summer.

Leverkusen to demand £90m for Wirtz amid Liverpool interest
According to TeamTalk, Leverkusen have placed a £90m asking price on Wirtz’s head for next summer, with the report stating that Manchester City are now firmly in the race for the Germany international.
With seven goals and one assist in all competitions already for the reigning Bundesliga champions, Leverkusen are well within their right to demand as much as they want for Wirtz given his age and world-class potential.

And for Liverpool, the fee could be worth it in the long-term if Wirtz is viewed by the scouting and coaching team as the perfect successor to Salah, with the 21-year-old a Premier League superstar in the making.
Indeed, Liverpool’s main issue could be beating rival teams to Wirtz’s signature, with City and Real Madrid two sides with credible interest in the youngster, who could find the Etihad Stadium or the Bernabau more appealing.

How does Wirtz’s stats compare to Salah’s for Liverpool?
Wirtz has been one of the best players in Europe across the last 12 months, and for Liverpool specifically, the Germany international could be viewed as a potential replacement for Salah should the winger leave next summer.
| Mohamed Salah since 2023/24 | Florian Wirtz since 2023/24 | |
| Games played | 57 | 63 |
| Goals | 33 | 25 |
| Assists | 21 | 21 |
And looking at Wirtz’s numbers compared to Salah’s since the start of last season, there isn’t too much separating the two superstar attackers, though the Liverpool’s winger record is more impressive with more goals in fewer games.
Liverpool have a big decision to make next year in who should replace Salah, yet Wirtz could prove to be a dream option for the Reds, with the 21-year-old only getting started in his exciting career.
