Ibrahima Konate hits back at RB Leipzig after former club ‘forget’ about him during Liverpool clash

Liverpool made it through a tough week of three difficult fixtures with seven points from a possible nine.

A lot has been said about the tricky run of matches the Reds currently find themselves in, with Arne Slot being given a real test of his credentials.

So far, Liverpool have come through it unscathed. A win over Chelsea was followed up by victory at RB Leipzig before an impressive point was collected away to Arsenal.

Ibrahima Konate has been a key part of those three excellent results for the Reds. Having played every minute of each game, the French defender has cemented himself as a big player in the Liverpool squad.

For Konate, the Champions League game against Leipzig was especially important, given that it was a first competitive return to the club he played for before joining Liverpool.

Konate was not the only former Red Bull player in a red shirt last Wednesday, though. And after Leipzig honoured Dominik Szoboszlai after the match, the 25-year-old has hit back at his former club for ‘forgetting’ about him.

Ibrahima Konate hits back at RB Leipzig

Liverpool’s No.5 has been superb in superb form this season. Slot highlighted Konate’s contribution against Arsenal once again on Sunday.

Prior to that, the France international also shone against his former club in the Champions League.

In ordinary circumstances, there would have been no expectation that Leipzig would really do anything to mark Konate coming back to the Red Bull Arena.

Players feature against their former clubs all the time without any official recognition.

But after Szoboszlai was presented with an award by directors after the game, Ibou was probably wondering why he was not given the same treatment.

Five days on from the game, and it was clearly still on the centre-back’s mind. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Konate shared a video of him handing out Liverpool shirts to the RB Leipzig fans after Wednesday’s game.

“RB Leipzig forgot me, but I don’t forget them,” Ibou wrote. “It’s all love.”

Liverpool staff respond to Ibrahima Konate message

It is a little hard to tell if Konate is serious here. The former Leipzig man is well known to joke around a heck of a lot.

But given that Ibou also publicly shared a message from Liverpool’s Head of performance physical therapy Chris Morgan on his Instagram stories, he does seem a little hurt.

“We’d never forget you mate,” Morgan sent Konate, alongside a photograph of he and masseur Paul Small standing beside a roped off red bull.

Given that this was a private message sent on Whatsapp that Konate decided to publicly share, something has obviously a touched a bit of a nerve.

For such a smiley character who obviously loves his former club, that is sad to see. Hopefully Konate is currently feeling the love from Liverpool amid a string of wonderful displays. Head up, Ibou, we love you!
