Arne Slot explains what he thinks Liverpool are doing with Giorgi Mamardashvili while he’s out on-loan

Liverpool have a number of players out on-loan who have started the season in good fashion.

With a few injury worries at the moment, some Reds supporters would perhaps rather see the likes of Kaide Gordon, Ben Doak and Lewis Koumas still at the club.

But while they may have been given the odd game under Arne Slot, those three players are surely better served getting more regular minutes elsewhere.

Another player who has been lighting up his temporary club while on-loan from Liverpool is Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Mamardashvili has of course spent the past two seasons installed as the number one ‘keeper at the Spanish club and is by now well established as one of the best goalies in La Liga.

And as the 24-year-old prepares to move to Anfield next summer, Slot has been asked for his thoughts on Mamardashvili’s form.

Arne Slot makes Giorgi Mamardashvili prediction

As a result of another long-term injury for Alisson Becker this season, the Mamardashvili signing has started to look like a really clever piece of business from Liverpool.

That has been reinforced over the season so far, with Mamardashvili earning rave reviews from the Valencian press.

This weekend, the Georgian eclipsed anything that had come before by pulling off a stunning double save against Getafe.

Asked about Mamardashvili’s performances during his pre-Brighton press conference on Wednesday, Slot said that although he did not himself see the highlights, he’s sure that Liverpool are watching their new man very closely indeed.

“I assume the club follows his progress very detailed because I know how professional this club is,” said the Liverpool head coach.

“If you ask me, I’m in the programme from press conference to game, sometimes I have some time to train with boys as well!

“So, I wasn’t able to see his game during the weekend but it’s good to hear he made some saves. But I’m not surprised to hear that because we knew we bought a very good goalkeeper.”

Who will be Liverpool’s number one next season?

Liverpool supporters are certainly very excited to see Mamardashvili at the club next season.

However, with Alisson still such a firm favourite too, there are also some nerves over what may happen.

For the moment, it seems that Liverpool are still weighing up all scenarios involving Mamardashvili.

While there seems little chance that the Georgia international will come in and displace Alisson, he could either spend another season out on-loan or come in to challenge for the number one spot.

At this point, it seems fairly clear that Alisson will still be the man with the shirt next year. But if injuries strike for the Brazilian again, Mamardashvili looks ready to take over.
