‘Excellent’ Liverpool player could be about to turn his season around with start against Arsenal

Liverpool are gearing up for their biggest game of the season yet with a clash against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Reds have hurdled just about every obstacle thrown their way so far this term, winning 11 out of 12 matches in all competitions.

That record makes it the best start to a season in Liverpool history. Remarkable given the level of success achieved at Anfield across 132 years.

If they can extend the run and make it 12 out of 13 on Sunday, then Liverpool fans will start to believe that their team can do something special under Arne Slot.

Arsenal’s injury and suspension problems give the Reds a real chance of getting another important win under their belt.

But Liverpool have some issues of their own. And that could mean that Darwin Nunez is about to get the chance to lay down a marker in the starting XI.

Darwin Nunez must grasp Arsenal chance

Diogo Jota is set to be one of the players who will miss Liverpool’s trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

The Portuguese forward has a brilliant record against the Gunners but unfortunately will not be playing this weekend.

Instead, it seems fairly certain that Nunez will be given the nod to lead the line for Liverpool.

The Uruguay international has had a tough season so far but he did get the winning goal against RB Leipzig on Wednesday. Nunez was ‘excellent’ against the German side and must use this unexpected chance to gather momentum.

Had everybody been fit for the visit to North London, then it’s likely that Jota would start through the middle of Liverpool’s attack,.

However, the 27-year-old has not been overly convincing as Slot’s main man in between Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.

As a result, if Nunez can make a positive impact against Arsenal, then it will feel like he is now winning the battle with Jota to nail down the spot moving forward.

Darwin Nunez can still turn it around at Liverpool

In many ways, this feels like a pivotal moment in Nunez’s whole Liverpool career.

With Jota out injured, the 25-year-old has the opportunity to show that he can handle the responsibility of being the Reds’ starting No.9.

Making an impact in a game as big as this one will signal that Nunez is finally ready to shoulder that in the long-term.

But if Darwin doesn’t turn up at the Emirates, then conclusions will be drawn that he can not be trusted in these big games and that is likely to prove yet another setback to his chances of staying at Anfield.

In the mood with a goal in midweek, we think that Nunez can be the difference against Arsenal, truly kick starting his season at a time when he needs to the most.
