Darwin Nunez was the hero for Liverpool tonight against RB Leipzig as the striker scored the only goal of the match.
The Uruguay international’s first-half header was enough to secure all three points for the Reds as Liverpool shot up to second in the UEFA Champions League league phase standings, with Arne Slot’s side winning all three games.
With Rio Ferdinand left fuming that Nunez didn’t win a penalty for Liverpool shortly after scoring for the Merseyside giants, it was an impressive evening for the former Benfica star, who enjoyed easily his best game of the season yet.
And Steve McManaman was also impressed with what he saw from Nunez in Germany.

Nunez praised after ‘excellent night’ for Liverpool vs RB Leipzig
Speaking on TNT Sport’s coverage of the game, the former Liverpool star was impressed with what he saw from Nunez, with the striker leading the line expertly for the Reds against a strong Leipzig side.
As well as scoring the only goal of the game, Nunez was a livewire of an attacker for Liverpool as the South American talisman showed why can be a great option for Slot in specific games, and McManaman enjoyed what he saw.

McManaman said: “I thought he had an excellent night. He scored the goal, he was involved in the penalty claim, his hard work set up the chance for Gakpo, I thought he had a really good night.
“He’s an option to Diogo Jota, he’s a different type of player, and he’ll be needed in this type of form. He was really good this evening.”

Nunez might have experienced his turning point at Liverpool under Slot
Nunez had a slow start to life under Slot this season at Liverpool, with Diogo Jota the preferred option for the Dutch coach to lead the line as the former Wolves man once again impressed for the Reds.
Yet tonight’s performance for Nunez in Germany could be the turning point the Uruguay international needed to become a key member of Slot’s attack, with the forward in truly impressive form against Leipzig.
Indeed, Liverpool fans saw the best version of Nunez in Saxony this evening, and the forward will hope he retains his spot in the starting XI this weekend when the Reds travel to north London to face Arsenal.
