Liverpool prepare to travel to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday to take on Arsenal in what promises to be one of the games of the Premier League season so far.

The Gunners are sweating over Bukayo Saka’s fitness and will be without the suspended William Saliba, while Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori are doubts.

Liverpool have their own injury problems and Arne Slot has just provided an update on Alisson Becker, who remains on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.

The Brazilian was substituted during the 1-0 win against Crystal Palace late in the game and hasn’t featured for the club since, with Caoimhin Kelleher deputising for him between the sticks.

Speaking ahead of the game against Arsenal, Slot confirmed that Alisson is progressing well but isn’t close to returning to training.

“He’s progressing well like we expect but it’s not a short-term recovery,” said the Dutchman at a press conference.

“It’s always difficult to judge. The best way to judge an injury is at the end when he’s in rehab and he’s not there yet.

“I can’t tell you how long he’ll be out but don’t expect him to be there against Brighton, in the cup or next week.”

How many games has Alisson Becker missed this season?

Alisson has already missed four games through injury this season, with Kelleher deputising for him on each occasion.

However, when he picked up an injury against Palace, Kelleher wasn’t in the squad due to an injury issue of his own, which led to an unexpected debut for Vitezslav Jaros.

Signed for £67m in the summer of 2018, Alisson is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in world football but his niggling injuries are becoming a bit of an issue for the club.

Impending Liverpool arrival Giorgi Mamardashvili confirmed that he will compete for a starting spot next season, so the Brazilian will have to prove his fitness to retain his place as the Reds’ number-one goalkeeper.
