Liverpool head into the international break top of the Premier League and in a strong position in the UEFA Champions League, yet injuries are now starting to come up.

Alisson Becker has been ruled out for six weeks after picking up a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace, with Alexis Mac Allister also forced off against the Eagles after picking up a thigh issue at Selhurst Park.

With Liverpool looking light in virtually every position on the field except the attack, injuries to the likes of Alisson and Mac Allister could have long-standing consequences for the remainder of the season given their huge influence.

And Argentina have now made a decision on Mac Allister’s fitness ahead of tonight’s game against Venezuela.

Alexis Mac Allister dropped from Argentina’s matchday squad due to injury

According to El Destape, Argentina have dropped Mac Allister for tonight’s game in Buenos Aires against Venezuela, with the midfielder being rested having not joined up with his national team team fully fit after suffering last weekend’s injury.

Lionel Scaloni confirmed that Mac Allister was still recovering from his injury after linking up with Argentina in Miami for this international break earlier this week, with the Liverpool star in need of more time out on the sideline before returning to action.

With Argentina Venezuela and Bolivia in this international break, though, there’s a good chance that the reigning FIFA World Cup champions might not even have to call upon Mac Allister to get the six points in the coming days.

And with Liverpool’s schedule only getting more hectic after this international break, there’s a real chance that the Reds could call upon Argentina to send Mac Allister back to Anfield, where he is recovery could be more suited.

Liverpool should have kept Mac Allister on Merseyside this international break

Football players are subject to more games than ever before, with the top athletes subject to as many as 60 to 70 matches a season depending on what club and country they represent.

And for Mac Allister, who hasn’t had a real break since the summer of 2022, there’s a real risk of the Liverpool midfielder finally hitting his limit after consistent football with the Reds, Argentina and Brighton & Hove Albion.

As a result, Liverpool should have fought to keep Mac Allister on Merseyside for this international break, with the midfielder clearly not fit enough to play for Argentina this month in their World Cup qualifiers.
