Darren Bent says Liverpool have a player who can do something better than anyone in the world

Liverpool have so far made light of predictions that they would fall away without Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds underwent a massive period of change within the football club this summer, with Klopp leaving after almost nine years in charge.

And having overseen one of the best periods in Liverpool’s history, there was genuine concern over how the Reds would get on without the charismatic German.

Of course, it is still early days and there is plenty that can still change in the weeks ahead. The recent loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield was a sure sign that things may get worse before they get better.

However, that aside, Liverpool have been perfect under Arne Slot. The Dutchman has handled the transition better than anyone could have hoped.

Slot deserves immense credit for the way he’s taken on the challenge and so far succeeded at Anfield. But it’s also true that the Liverpool head coach has had some of the very best players in the world at his disposal.

Darren Bent hails Trent Alexander-Arnold’s creativity

The Liverpool squad is absolutely jam-packed full of talent these days.

Right from Alisson Becker – and even Caoimhin Kelleher – in goal, all the way through to the ridiculously good forward line. Slot has some brilliance at his fingertips.

Even in amongst that stellar cast, though, some players stand out. One of which is right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold has been in the news this week after speaking publicly about his on-going contract situation.

But while the focus may currently be on matters off the pitch, turn your attention on it, and you’ll find a player at the very top of his game.

The one area where Trent can still improve is defensively however, and speaking to TalkSPORT, former England striker Darren Bent claimed that the Liverpool right-back does need to work on this.

Despite that clear flaw in his game, though, Bent says that there is ‘nobody better’ than Alexander-Arnold when it comes to being creative from full-back.

“The one thing Trent needs to work on is that defending at the back-post,” says Bent. “The amount of times people sneak behind him or get in front of him and get a shot on goal. Awareness of what’s going on behind you.

“I don’t think there’s any dispute that as an attacking option for Liverpool, there’s nobody in world football better than Trent, from that position, right-back,” he adds.

“There’s nobody that can create like he can create. But defensively at times he has found himself wanting a little bit.”

What’s the latest on Alexander-Arnold’s contract?

After Alexander-Arnold spoke out about his future at Liverpool over the weekend, it’s only fair that attention remains on his contact situation.

But for the time being, there is simply nothing to report. Hopefully talks will be ongoing soon to find a resolution, but for now one is yet to arrive.

In the meantime, it has been claimed that Alexander-Arnold does not definitely want to continue at Liverpool beyond the end of the season.

Of the three big players out of contract next summer – Trent, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk – it has been reported that Salah is the only one who has been open about wanting to stay.

With Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk’s intention said to be ‘ambiguous,’ it’s starting to look ominous. As Bent says, Liverpool would be letting a huge talent walk out of the door.
