Liverpool returned to winning ways at Anfield after easing past Bournemouth 3-0 in their Premier League clash.

Arne Slot loved Darwin Nunez’s work rate as Liverpool overcame the Cherries on home soil, with the Uruguayan netting the third and final goal of the game.

Luis Diaz shone with a brace for the Reds, who needed a big win after losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest at Anfield last week.

The victory leaves the Merseyside club one point behind leaders and defending champions Manchester City in the Premier League table.

It was another superb team effort under Slot, who has quickly won over many Liverpool supporters in his early tenure at the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz impress in Liverpool win vs Bournemouth

Pundit Troy Deeney was, however, particularly impressed with two Reds stars in the win as he named Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diaz in his BBC Sport Team of the Week.

Discussing the right-back, he said: “I was at the Liverpool game, where Alexander-Arnold was excellent at the back against a Bournemouth team who were lively.

“Alexander-Arnold was good both defensively and going forward, where Bournemouth had to rotate two or three people just to deal with his attacks. He got a great assist as well.”

And of Diaz, Deeney said: “On the right for Liverpool he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile.

“I appreciate this is a massive statement but it made me think if Liverpool do let Mohamed Salah go, he could take over as the main man.

“He was excellent, left foot, right foot. He ran short and ran long. His enthusiasm to play football was brilliant and both his goals were unbelievable as well. Fantastic, fantastic.”

Arne Slot continues fine start to life at Liverpool

Slot needed to get off to a good start at Liverpool in order to show the fans that the board made the right choice with Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.

The Dutchman was heading into a very difficult job given the success that the German enjoyed, but he has undoubtedly exceeded expectations at this early stage.

Slot will still be frustrated with that shock Nottingham Forest defeat, as will the Liverpool supporters, but other than that there can be no complaints.

Four wins out of five have been secured in the Premier League, with 10 goals scored and just one conceded.

There has also been a round one Champions League victory, with more success away from the league now expected when West Ham travel to Merseyside for a League Cup clash.

Anfield plays host to the third round encounter on Wednesday, with Reds fans set to find out just how much Slot wants to win that competition based on his team selection.
